Well, we should talk about this, however briefly it may be. We’re on radio!

Let’s break it down. First, for those who haven’t noticed, we’ve been on “The Morning News Express” with Bob Miller on WFMD 930 each Thursday morning at about 8:20. There, we talk a little 72 Hours, highlighting some of the things that appear in the publication each week. Occasionally, we get some Frederick Playlist love out there, but for the most part, it’s a way to consolidate all the upcoming goings-on in and around Frederick for the weekend. We have fun. And now there’s this: For something much more music-centric – and much more in line with what we have going on here at Frederick Playlist – on Friday, we debuted a brand new two-hour show on WSHC 89.7, Shepherd University’s de facto place for music. It’s called, creatively enough, The Local Playlist (get it?!?!). It’s two hours of nothing but local music. Or, perhaps more accurately, it’s two hours of the type of stuff we profile here on Frederick Playlist.

For instance, these are the artists we played on the debut show last Friday: Heavy Lights, Chelsea McBee, Ghost Hotel, Grand Ol’ Ditch, The Hello Strangers, New God, Old Indian, Seaknuckle, Silent Old Mtns., Stitch Early, Big Hoax, Lynn Hollyfield, Fractal Cat, Car Party, Clearspring, Domino Falls, The Gray Area, Twin Radio, The Mobtown Modern Big Band, and, of course, Karen Jonas. The fun kicks off each Friday at 1 p.m. and goes until about 3 p.m. You can listen to it live each Friday here.

The plan is to have guests on occasionally, depending on who’s in town, and with any luck, we’ll get a few performances out of some artists, too. This Friday, we hope to have the boys from Seaknuckle stop by the studio to talk about their show that night with Rozwell Kid at The Blue Moon in Shepherdstown. Oh, and they will also PREMIERE A BRAND NEW, NEVER-BEFORE-HEARD SONG from their upcoming record. Notice the bold type. Notice the all-caps. There’s also a chance we’ll have Larry Cumbo, owner of The Opera House, come through to tell us about what he has going on as well.
